Cat5 Reach

Cat5 Reach

Cat5 Reach enables you to remotely access a single PC or multiple servers connected to a KVM switch. The remote user console (keyboard, monitor, and mouse) can be up to 1,000 feet away from the PC or KVM switch. Cat5 Reach allows you to:

  • Operate a PC from wherever you want to be.
  • Keep your PC in a clean, secure environment.
  • Protect the PC, applications and valuable data.
  • Add a local user console, in addition to the remote user console.
  • Control all servers connected to a KVM switch remotely.

Cat5 Reach is easy to install and easy to use. Each Cat5 Reach model is packaged as a kit that includes a transmitter and receiver pair for use with your Enhanced Cat5 UTP cable. Just plug a keyboard, video and mouse into the receiver and operate. Automatic Video Tuning (AVT) adjusts video quality automatically, so no manual adjustments are needed.

How can I get access to more servers if I have already connected computers to all my KVM switch channels?
Cascade any KVM switch (except SwitchMan) to expand the capacity.

What is the distance between cascaded units?
Two feet to 30 feet with Raritan coaxial cables. By using Cat5 Reach, cascaded switches can be up to 1,000 feet apart. Or, by using FiberReach II, cascaded switches can be up to 6,600 feet apart. Additionally, user consoles and PCs can be 1,000 or 6,600 feet from the KVM switch with Cat5 Reach or FiberReach II.

What will happen if I use more than 1,000 feet of Category 5 cable on my Cat5 Reach?
The Cat5 Reach is designed to operate at maximum performance up to 1,000 feet. If you use a Cat5 cable longer than 1,000 feet, you may see a degradation of the video quality and/or a loss of keyboard or mouse operation. You will not harm the Cat5 Reach components with a longer cable.

I have some computers located more than 30 feet away from my KVM switch. Can I connect these computers to my KVM switch?
Yes. To locate computers or cascaded KVM switches at distances greater than 30 feet from the KVM switch, use Raritan's Cat5 Reach with standard Category 5 UTP cable (up to 1,000 feet) or FiberReach II with fiber optic cable (up to 6,600 feet). Call Raritan Sales for more assistance.

I need to relocate one of the servers, but the current cable kit is not long enough. Is there any way to extend the distance?
Yes, use Raritan's Cat5 Reach with standard Category 5 UTP cable (up to 1,000 feet) or FiberReach II with fiber optic cable (up to 6,600 feet). Call Raritan Sales for more assistance.

I intend to place my switch in a rack or enclosed cabinet with the servers. Is there a simple way to switch and operate the servers from my desk without going to the rack?
Yes. Use our keyboard, monitor, mouse extension cable, up to 35 feet, and operate using hot-key commands and on-screen menus. To locate user consoles at distances greater than 35 feet from the KVM switch, use Raritan's Cat5 Reach with standard Category 5 UTP cable (up to 1,000 feet) or FiberReach II with fiber optic cable (up to 6,600 feet). Call Raritan Sales for more assistance.
